Skill Statements

 

  • Students will use the scientific method and develop a solution for an environmental issue.

  • Students will describe the flow of energy through an ecosystem using the laws of thermodynamics.

  • Students will be able to define and cite examples of succession, evolution, extinction, and biodiversity.

  • Students will map levels of organization of matter. See Science Curriculum.

  • Students will identify a biome then illustrate biogeochemical cycles, interaction among organisms, and impact of humans on the environment.

  • Students will describe Wisconsin's major ecosystems.

  • Students will create a timeline of resource management history in Wisconsin and identify careers and agencies responsible for current natural resource management.

  • Students will provide examples of how different cultures use natural resources, how resources are distributed around the world, and how people's use of resources impacts the environment.

  • Students will identify major pollutants, their point and nonpoint sources, resource depletion, and their environmental and economic impact.

  • Students will develop a personal action plan addressing a local environmental issue, listing short and long term solutions, and persuade others to participate in the action.

  • Students will explain how citizens work together in education, economic, and government institutions to solve environmental issues.
